Hi All,

I’m currently in my 2nd fallow because the first didn’t work. My Kole tang died from the ich and I now have a yellow in the 55g QT. It seems to occasionally pick on my CBB and seems stressed. If I decide to keep it, should I introduce them to the DT (72g) at the same time? Or the CBB first? Or should I just try to trade him in? He is uninterested in the mirror.

Thanks,

Nate

Get rid of him. Yellow Tangs can be aggressive jerks to their tankmates. I had one in my 90 gallon that was just shy of half grown that tried to take over the entire tank after a month and caused physical harm to my coral beauty dwarf angel. Replaced it with a One Spot Foxface and the tank is much happier. Butterflyfish DO NOT do well with bullies, so my recommendation is to replace the Yellow Tang with a Foxface unless you already have one. The odds of it coexisting Peacefully with a Copperband are MUCH higher than a Yellow Tang would be.

I had a cbb and yellow tang in my 150. It did not work out well for the cbb.. the cbb is a very docile fish with similar body shape to yellow tang. Yellow tangs are much more aggressive (especially to similar looking fish). It is not a good combination, imo, especially in a 72g tank. My advice is to rehome one of them, based on my experience. Tough decision, both beautiful fish.

Thank you both for the replies. I’ve had the CBB for 4 months now and i’ve made so much effort to get it to eat and be happy so it would be hard for me to part with him. The yellow tang however, I am indifferent to. Especially since he is a jerk.

I agree. If I could keep one going I would take a Copperband in a heartbeat over a Yellow Tang. YT are a "Dime A Dozen" fish of medium to larger sized marine aquariums. Not saying Copperbands are uncommon but they are more unique than a YT. Oh and this is the Foxface I replaced my YT with:

Agree with sentiments above. Yellow tangs are such jerks. You can PM me if you'd like to know what I named my yellow, it's not public forum appropriate haha.
I'm curious why your first fallow period failed? How long did you go fallow?
