Yellow Tang At LFS

That is probably the highest I seen or heard. The highest was around 300 and that was for captive bred. I also saw an established yellow for sale for 400 which was around 6+ inches and healthy. Crazy mark ups.

Just seen a Yellow Tang at my LFS for $799+tax.

What’s the priciest yellow tang you’ve seen?
When I first started I bought one for $29.99

the most recent one I paid $120 and that was pushing it ….
I haven’t looked for new fish in a long time

I paid 400 for my Hawaiian yellow tang adult. This was during the yellow tang shut down. He’s a beautiful model citizen. :D

How big was it? Was it a true Hawaiian or captive bred?

I thought gas prices were too high. . . Yikes.
Is the word GREED Appropriate? My LFS has a 2" tank raised for $120

My first thought about $800 is that LFS is trying to take advantage of its customers! They would lose my business.
I think our geography has a lot to do with these prices. Literally only two stores (3 if you count Petco) in town that sell saltwater fish. Locals pay it because they have not much competition

I wouldn’t pay that much even if I could afford it.

Absolutely Fish in Clifton, NJ (def one of the top reef fish locations) is right at $250 for captive bred ~2"ers and $400 for the big boy grown adults (Hawaiian).

When I got back into the hobby the prices of YT's shocked me.

Once my system is ready I will have one but I will have to pry my wallet open with a crow bar for that one. Oh well. I am going to buy captive. I love purple ones too!

The most I ever paid for a yellow tang was $49.

I plan on buying a CB yellow tang and will probably spend around $200 shipped. If it wasn't my pet and I saw these numbers I may consider "flippin' fish" that could be the next Animal Planet "reality" TV show.

People take ad of people in reefing community think just about everyone does 80/100 but a coral a fish is worth what someone wants to pay for it .they should have a standard but they don't that's why it's called shopping around or your state reefing community might can get same coral for 1/2 and Agricultured ,pest free and might make a friend or 2 . Tell you what to do get a high end coral and sell it 50 dollars cheaper you will make money and market will come down eventually all corals will be 20 dollars..lol
