Yellow tang bacterial infection

I lost power for 4 days from the storm. I was able to keep a power head going so everything made it out alive. However it looks like the tang has a bacterial infection now. He has small red streaks round his stomach and the base of his fins. I have kanaflex and focus but I am unsure how to use it. I also won’t be able to catch him to get him into a qt tank. So I don’t want to treat the water if possible.

if it a bacterial infection which it does look like because of the redness its best treated with antibiotics outside your display tank and its gonna be tough catching him i know ive been there

The last time I had to move him I had to remove all the rocks to get him. He doesn’t fall for fish traps.

There was an article in R2R from Humblefish about bacterial infections.

I would go read that article, but he stated that in lots of cases the immune system of the fish should be able to fight off the bacterial infection and that he would only use antibiotics as coming close to a last resort.

I would say if the fish is eating fine and you are feeding a varied diet, then don't medicated him yet and just keep an eye on him. Trying to catch yellow tangs puts immense amount of stress on them.

he was still eating and active. But I ended up mixing kanaflex with focus and some flake food and a little bit of garlic to hold it together. After two days all the red is gone and he looks much better. I was trying to let him ride it out but I was worried about waking up to a dead fish.

I was going to suggest garlic in his food and leave him be.
