Yellow tang breathing heavy not eating

Introduced yellow tang yesterday he is breathing heavy this morning and not interested in any food offered (mysis, brine shrimp or nori) the stomach now looks a little pinched. It was swimming fine in LFS yesterday and didn’t have pinched stomach. Ammonia 0, nitrite 0 and nitrate 5. The other fish and inverts all seem fine and feeding. It was swimming around with the other fish and no fish is picking on it (it’s the largest fish in the tank and no aggressive fish) could it be internal parasite? Or something else

A few questions: How long did the LFS have the tang, did you watch them feed the tang/observe it eating, did you QT the tang, how old is the tank, and what size is the tank?

LFS a week, yes chased food when added in LFS, no QT, Red Sea max 250. The tank completed cycling 2 weeks ago added a clownfish 10 days ago with ATM colony and monitored parameters all stable. Added the tangs yesterday with another bottle of colony. Tested this morning 0 ammonia or nitrite and 5-10 nitrate. Salinity 1.025.

I have had reef and predator tanks for 5 years but not experienced a fish not feeding before other than a lionfish for a week then didn’t stop.

Stomach has become pinched. I put it in a freshwater dip a few hours ago and looks like some flukes fell off but breathing fast still and no interest in food when offered again.

Is the LFS a reputable one? What about the quality of their other fish?

yes I went 50 miles away as it’s one of the few I trust for livestock

Ouch, maybe you just got a bad specimen. Usually they’re pretty hardy fish. Maybe try feeding some medicated food soaked in Selcon?
