About 2 weeks ago I got a yellow tang from my LFS, and he's doing awesome! Active, eats a crazy amount of mysis and seaweed and swims laps around my tank, but he seems to always be breathing heavy and I don't know if that normal for some tangs or something might be wrong with him. All parameters are fine just curious is all.

Could you grab a video, by chance?
I agree. It’ll give us something less subjective to work with. Also, any other symptoms? (Spots or dusting appearance, swimming in to powerheads, hiding from light, scratching, or flashing?)

How long has your tank been running?

For what it's worth, my yellow tang seems to breath more rapidly than any of the other fish in the tank. Rapid isnt the right term as I dont consider it rapid but it is faster than the rest. Been in the tank over a year and has always been like that; it's also more active than most of the fish in the tank though.

I typically use other tangs, particularly other zebrasoma tangs, if applicable, as a benchmark.

Mine is the same way. Been in my tank for over 6 years and its gills have always moved much faster then my other tangs: purple, scopas and PB for some reason.
