Hello, we have a yellow tang that we got from our local coral store. The previous owner was selling his shop and we were able to take his beloved yellow tang he had for 4 years. We quarantined for 2 weeks, did great and then put in display tank. He is eating everyday and attacking seaweed so appetite is good. However, I keep seeing little parts of his fin missing. I will watch the tank and see no bad behaviors or any fish picking on him. Of course it could happen at night, not sure. But lately he has been just swimming and then will stop and float with the current sometimes sideways, is this normal behavior for Tang owners?

Ammonia - 0.025
Nitrate - 40ppm
Nitrite - 0
Salinity - 1.024
Temp - 80 degrees

I'm not 100% on the going sideways behavior. I don't recall seeing mine do that. As for the likely aggression, have you tried setting up your phone to record the tank for 20 - 30 minutes and then go back to it? A lot of the times the behavior will be different with you standing there vs. you walking away.

Definitely looks like aggression/bite marks to me.
You didn't tell us who's in the tank with him/her but guessing a clown :thinking-face:
Tank looks relatively new so keep including generous amounts of greenery.
About the swimming thing that doesn't sound normal to me. Not something I've ever seen a healthy fish do.
Get back to us we're here to help just need a bit more information.

This seems like something for the #fishmedic team to look at - I agree that we need more info for this, and the fin damage is likely aggression.
