Yellow Tang Health Troubles

Hi folks,

I noticed a weird black burn mark looking spot on the base of the dorsal of my normally strong healthyyellow tang.

That was a few days ago. Today I noticed some white specs in his fins, attached photos. Thoughts? My tank has a bunch of coral and about 12 fish, but I don’t see any issues on the others.

Looks like your fish has Ich. That spot looks like an injury.

To me it looks like a combination of ich and possible something else such as a injury caused by another fish or maybe scale rot, either way i would take him out of the DT and place him in a QT tank and dose copper for the ich, and monitor the spots to see if the they go away.

Not cause for removing all fish, would you all concur? I can set up the QT for this one guy. Best recommendation for copper dosing for QT?

If you don't treat all the fish in the tank for ich no point in treating the yellow tang. It will still be in the tank and when you put it back in the tank it will just be re-infected. If you decide to treat all you must also go fallow (fishless) for 76 days.

He could recover, in tank, as well though, right?

You can manage ich in tank but you can NOT get rid of it. Can he live with it? Yes it is possible but he could also die. It will always be there if you do not follow the above that I posted. Here is a thread on it. Read that over and it will help explain the differences.
