Yellow tang in QT turning red

I've been searching and reading a lot but was looking for more help. I purchased several fish over a month ago. At the end of the 4 week qt, the tang started getting red splotches. All the other fish looked great. At first I started multiple water changes in case of water issues. No change. Did a 4 day cycle of Furan 2. Looked great, but wanted to give them a few days to make sure they were healthy. 4th day tang turning red again. Did another 4 day Furan treatment and he still looks the same. Should I do a Furan, kana and metro cocktail? Dose food? Thanks.

Yellow tangs can turn red with salinity changes -- do you mix your saltwater before adding to the tank?

In particular, quick increases of salinity are real hard on them.

Can you post photos of the affected fish?

^^ Agree; we need to make sure this is not just due to osmotic shock before considering a bacterial infection.

I'll get a picture. But I pre mix and check that it's a match before I ever add to qt or display.

Hang in there LO I just picked up a tang that's changing color as well.

The back end of the fish looks like osmotic shock, but the month looks very much bacterial to me. I'd source kanaplex, metroplex, and furan 2 to dose in a qt and acriflavin for a dip asap just in case!

It looks like the pictures of bacterial infection. But to me both salinity shock and bacterial look the same from the pictures I've looked at. How can you tell the difference.

it can sometimes take an experienced eye to spot the difference, but for the most part it's elimination. If it's not osmotic shock, then it's probably bacterial. I think I would get ahold of those meds mentioned and start it up. Add vitamins to the food in the mean time to help boost his immune system.
