Hi everyone so a friend of mine shut down his tank and gave me a blue spotted puffer and a yellow tang.
the tang is in pretty bad shape its almost see through, can see the internals. Aswell the fins have been nipped a good bit. He currently will go crazy for my small marine pellets but I feel they're insufficient for him as he won't go for nori yet.
My second concern is that my kole tang shows some pretty rough aggression towards him, I'm just wondering is the aggression going to die down between these two. I want to get this yellow tang back and healthy.
ill post a pic tomorrow of fins and stomach. thanks in advanced everyone

Never had a kole tang but tags seem to be territorial. Since there are two if say there is an issue. At the very least feed enough so that the yellow and kole are not fighting for food.

I would put one in an acclimation box if its super bad. Put some garlic on the nori.

If he is eating the pellets, feed those more frequently, so that he doesn't lose any more weight.

Using an acclimation box or eggcrate to divide the tank, so that he isn't harassed too badly and has an opportunity to recover.

alright, so I put in two clips of equal nori and stuck them at either end of the tank, fed pellets to the yellow, the aggression is still there but much less now it sort of seems to be if the yellow goes on his side of the tank and he'll follow to make sure he's away i dont have an acclimation box or egg crate on hand but the aggression isn't so bad he wont eat so I hope it just dies down. here's a pic

I forgot to ask can those nipped fins eventually heal or is it too far nipped, and my kole didn't do this it was from the previous tank, I guess he said damsels... little demon fish

The fins will heal.

my phone camera doesnt pick it up well but I can definitely see his spine and the out line of his bones, the aggression is definitely less today but still there, i saw the yellow take a small bite of nori so he knows it's there and edible.

It's not common to see some of there insides because of the strong lighting these days. I would also try some frozen food. It helped mine to turn off the flow and put in food so he could swim out and check it all out before eating

I totally get that, I'm still not too experienced in this hobby I'm more or less going off of how others looked in my LFS. Could you recommend some good frozen for veggie eaters? I'm not too savvy on quality frozen foods.

Well a lot of people have good luck with frozen mysis, but my yellow loves nano reef frenzy. Very fresh and my fish love it

The puffer looks to have lost his tail too. Is that the case? Keep an eye out for any infection. Yellow tang and Kole should eventually be fine. I have both in my tank and my Kole was there for 6 years when I added the yellow. No issues 5 years down the road now. I also have a blue spot puffer. New acquisition though. So far love him to bits. Eats out of my hand and loves to follow me around the tank. Loves nori too. I find putting a large strip of nori, doubled over, and rubber band around a rock and drop in to work great for fish. They love to peck at it. I also use the clips. The rock just seems to go faster and less waste.

I'll check out lrs I've only heard good things about them. as for my puffer his tail is always scrunched he flares it when spooked and it's beautiful no nips at all. Well 3rd day the aggression is almost gone completely and I'm super happy, they eat nori off the same rock together! thanks everyone for your help and info I really appreciate this forum:)

hi everyone I'm back with this yellow tang I finally got a pic of these black/brown spots on him that I just noticed this morning because I saw him itching on the sand and some rock. he's eating healthy, constantly munching nori, the aggression between him and the kole is gone so I'm wondering what this could be, any guesses?

Doesn't look to be any type of parasite or ich. My clowns also have some spots like that.

sounds like a plan is garlic extract any good to use every other day? I've heard it has beneficial qualities for the immune system, glad they aren't anything serious for now atleast. first time I saw any of my fish do the little scratch on a rock or sand and it made me look closer. he's still out and active but I'll keep you guys updated thank you.
