Yellow tang not doing well

Came home from work this afternoon and found my yellow tang laying on the sand breathing rapidly. I looked it over and didn’t see any signs of disease or injuries. I fed the tank yesterday, combo of brine and mysis shrimp. It was eating like a champ. I also supplement with nori which it was picking at last night. Now it looks like it’s close to the end. I was able to transfer it to the sump to keep any other fish from picking on it or the critters from swarming. Is there anything I can do to recover it? Am I too late?

How long have you had the tang? Have you noticed any aggression?

A since June. No aggression. I also have a cole tang but they get along fine. I think it might have gotten close to the RBTA I have. Although the nem has been in the tank for 2 months. I looked it over but didn’t see any marks from a bite, or sting.

Thats strange. Did you add anything new to your tank recently?

nothing but a few corals and a sea cucumber in the last 2 months.
I did dose 2 capfuls of seachem strontium when I got home. But I dose that every Friday and have been for months.

Were the corals and sea cucumber quarantined before placing them in the tank?

I dip every coral and I don’t have a quarantine tank. I have no parasites and the cucumber has been in the back filtering the sand. No other fish are distressed and all are swimming around just fine. I feed frozen cubes and every third feeding I add a few drops of vitamin C. the tangs are fat and eat like pigs.

How are your water parameters?

I mean it could be nem sting since its isolate just with the tang.

Thanks everyone for the advice and insights. Unfortunately we lost the fish. I’m pretty sure it got spooked and hit the anemone and that’s it. I plan on doing a water change this weekend and maybe start looking for a replacement.
