Yellow tang price

Some of the captive bred are kind of "skeletor" looking IMO.
They're sold very young. I hope they will grow out of that phase once they age up.

Paramus Reef Aquarium had them for $10.00... Only problem is you'd have to travel to Paramus NJ and back in time to 1987. ;)
I don't mind going back in time, but if my time machine ran out of plutonium, I'd have to spend the night in New Jersey?

Pay the $500.00!!!

No. They were listed there by price gougers after Hawaii closed to collection. I don't know many people who actually paid it.

Depending on where you are matters. I've seen him in the $200 price range in SoCal recently and still dropping
I’ve seen them for $150 in SoCal, some people are charging a ridiculous amount

My lfs has captive bred yellow tang for 210$ And I'm in Minnesota! 500 is way out of the price range. Maybe if it was a full grown fish but I have to say its a bit crazy.

They’re worth what you’re willing to pay for them, just like everything else. Would I pay $500 though? Nope, never. However, I did buy a yellow tang from biota last month. Eats like a pig and very healthy. That was worth it for me.

"Thank you for your recent order with [****]. We thank you for your business. In your order you selected the Free Yellow Tang. We apologize, but with Hawaii shutting down all exports, there are no longer any Yellow Tangs available. We have been substituting the Free yellow Tang with one of the following: Yellow Mimic Tang, Sailfin Tang, or a Scopas Tang. You always have the choice to get one of the other Free Items off the originals list - Polyp Grab Bag, Shroom Grab Bag, Zoanthid frag or a Lawnmower Blenny.

We apologize for all the confusion, IT is working on getting the banner and selection window changed."

Mostly i think wild fish have much more personality, probably from being chased by sharks and then appreciating the lack of them in our aquariums... lol

I figured. Still, those other tangs are like a $50-$60 freebie! Not bad if a person likes any of those tangs.

I’m expecting prices to drop eventually. But for now the Hawaiian ban is still new. At my lfs, 1.5” biotas are $140. If I get one at least I can watch it grow.

Why would the price for a fish that can no longer be collected every drop? Any for sale now had to come from established systems. I'm confused why every one says the price will drop, unless the collection ban is lifted.

likely because at some point the ban will be dropped. also, they are becoming more and more available from breeding.. a few years ago they were a $39 fish... I love them, but would NOT pay $500 for one at this point.

the court order banning them is a preliminary order, not a final order, and is based on hog wash.. (if you want my lawyerly perspective). The plaintiff searched high and low for a friendly court/judge.... As the case develops, facts will come out and the ban will be dropped IMO.. It's truly fringe environmental nutz pushing these cases and it's not about protecting the environment or protecting fish/animals, it's just ideological-- PITA type agenda... The mechanism of courts preliminary court orders (that destroy people's lives for no reason) over democracy, legislative debate, and science is a nasty trend, end around democracy and science, that no person actually caring about animal, the environment, and people's livelihoods should subscribe to.

What about biota yellow tangs?
they don’t look very yellow is that just because of age?
I have had one Biota and have now bought 2 more

the first "yellowed up" and grew well however it turned rapidly with lateral line disease and am certain it had nothing to do with being CB

the 2 little ones I have now are growing like weeds, and putting the Wild caught various species tangs to shame with their attention to grazing algae

agree with the above, if I have 500 smackers to drop on a wish list fish that Gem down at the LFS would be mine!

also added a yellow mimic to my lagoon recently and regret having passed on them before. Great personality and a deeper canary yellow (for now anyway) than any zebrasoma I have ever seen
