I recently bought a yellow tang for my reef tank. Soon after getting into the tank he cut his head at the base of the dorsal fin. It was red for about a week, then seemed to heal. However I noticed a white color at the base. I was and still am not sure what this white is. It is now very clear there is white similar to his scalpel at the tailfin. He has been this way for at least 3 weeks. There doesnt seem to be any problem any problem or discomfort. Im just not sure if this is some form of a fungus or what it is on his head. Anyone have any experience or advice with this??

Yes that is the bottom line. It just looks bad - maybe worse than it is, and I am not sure if it isnt some sort of fungus. Is blackwood near Toms River?

Ok so you are way south jersey? Im originally from NJ near Hackensack, my parents now live in Toms River near Seaside Heights.
