Yellow tang question....

So I had a purple tang in a 155 gallon tank for 6-8 months before adding any other fish. The second fish was a yellow tang. My experience was unique. Maybe because he was by himself for so long, but there was almost no aggression. Afterwards when there were more fish did he start being territorial. That yellow tang was a rescue from a biocube. That chronic stress absolutely showed. He did not have a long life. IMO zebrasoma should be in a minimum of 6'. In the perfect world I would have a large circular tank that would allow infinite laps. Having zebrasoma school together is an incredible sight to behold.

Interesting...yeah a circular tank would be a sight

They stay smaller than a Yellow Tang.

I disagree with that.

The journals I see for reference on S. unimaculatus and vulpinus have common lengths of 20 cm and a max length for S. vulpinus at 25 cm. Some folks argue that they should be considered the same species. Every adult foxface I see is at least 6-8+" long.

I almost never see an adult yellow tang over 5". Fishbase has a 20cm max listed for yellow tangs, but their reference is a pocket guide. John Randall in his "Surgeonfishes of the World" book says the largest specimen he caught was one 20cm TL fish. I don't think that is common, but I wonder if that's where the max size for some websites comes from.

Yeah I’ve never seen a yellow tang bigger than a fox face either but then again I haven’t been in this hobby for too long

I really want some color, the kole just doesn’t have that same pop

For a 75 if you want color and activity then go with Wrasses.

The Yellow Wrasse will give you the same color as the tang without the attitude:

Add in a Lubbock's Wrasse:

and a few others:

Also, is this a reef tank? If not then a Dwarf Angel would definitely fit the bill for you.
