Hello! I am shortly getting into the bigger league when it comes to saltwater fish and reefing. I really want a Yellow Tang, but I honestly fear ICH! Does every tang have ich and will this be a battle that I will be expected to fight? Please load as much information about these beauties as you can. Thank you!

As long as you have the environment suitable for the fish it shouldn't be a concern. If you want to take extra measures just order it from drreefsquarantinedfish.com

From my experience, dr reef has been very well with communication and service, but larger fish (I tried a foxface and a tang) don’t ship very well)

he even shipped me another fish for FREE after I told him that they didn’t make it

No fish ship well. Which is why we have a disease forum in the first place. They just originate from local pet stores usually which will sell them asap to mitigate costs.

One possibility is to ask the LFS to call you to pick up the fish as soon as it arrives— tell them you want to bring it home in the wholesaler’s bag; i.e., one less tank (the LFS) to give your new fish a disease.

Certain tangs are more prone to ich than others. Quarantining fish can be a lot of work and purchasing quarantined fish takes away a lot of hassle. Purchasing the smaller also reduces the stress on the fish.
For yellow tang you could also check out a place like biota that’s captive breed

Most of all the parasites come from wholesalers in the bag with the fish.

I can attest to good success with Boita YTs so far. First one is now in display tank doing great (had about 6 months), second arrived a few weeks ago and is presently in an observation tank (destation tank will be different display tank). Both ate TDS pellets immediately and were very active upon arrival - they seem to handle the shipping stress better than any of the wild caught fish I have recieved. I still place everything in the observation tank for several months before they leave for the main tanks just to be sure.

They were quarantined by him, and the smaller fish I got (mandarin) has been doing great for almost a year now. I think it’s the small amount of water and little oxygen that was put in the bag
