Hello,
I got my yellow tang last night from live aquaria and he has these strange horizontal lighter lines on him on both sides in about the same area. Live aquaria said it sounds like stress from shipping. It is now 24 hours later and he still has them. Anyone know what this is or has seen this before?
Thank you.

Your fish is gorgeous. Feed him and get him to eat. I feel that what you are looking at is part of the stress response. That looks like a good healthy fish.

Thank you. I have tried nori and mysis so far and no luck, but it is very early on I think

Yes you will really notice this at night. They get a darker spot above and a little below that line. Mine loves the seachem nutri diet flakes and nori (green). Here's a pic of mine in qt just after waking up.

How long after getting him did it take to disappear from the stress transition?

Honestly a few hours. It depends on how small they are when you get them as well. I just keep a little seaweed on a clip in qt and he learned to eat off of it.

Still the same. :-( he has not eaten yet either.
Is there a small place for him to hide (still easy for you to observe him)? I'm assuming you tried brine? Or brine spirulina enriched? You can also either add a little garlic guard or go to the grocery store and buy liquid garlic extract to add to it. If you do flake foods, i would recommend omega one garlic flakes to get him started eating. https://www.petco.com/shop/en/petco...xQMVLwn3LojPa2W9FagaAmaBEALw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds I've included the link to a product that has worked for me. Hope he starts eating soon. Keep us posted.

Thank you for your help. I have several pieces of pvc in the qt tank for him (doesn’t use them much from what I see). For food, I have nori on a clip, mysis and brine soaked in garlic guard, and even PE pellets. No luck on anything so far. I have not tried the flakes yet. I’ll try those today.

I got a yellow from live aquaria and went through the same thing, and now he’s twice the size of when I got him.. make sure he has some seaweed to nibble on..

How long did it take for that to go away on yours?

What I meant by going through the same thing as you - I wasn't aware of these white lines when I bought him, and it freaked me out at first. I did some googling and realized I had nothing to worry about.

The lines don't go away.. they'll be more apparent at night or early morning, and less so during the day (although you'll still see them during the day). Your tang appears healthy, so I don't think you have anything to worry about imo. Getting him to eat is top priority.. my tang is the bully of the tank, so I didn't have any issues as far as him being bullied, so be aware of that. When mine gets defensive, he backs up and swipes with his tail fin. Mine is very skittish, so when I approach the tank, he hides. Make sure you have some hiding places.. I think you have your in QT, but you should have something in there where he will feel safe. Do you have a seaweed clip? It may take a few days for him to start eating, be patient and try to keep a distance from the tank while waiting for him to eat. Mine will never eat if I'm standing next to the tank..
