I would definitely hold off on getting another one until we can find out what went wrong. It's a good possibility it was internal parasites.

How and what can I do to help or prevent that

QT is the best way to prevent any disease getting into your display. Mostly there are certain things we treat for right away since they are so prevalent in the market. You can use general cure which has prazi and metroplex in it and it will treat for flukes and intestinal worms.... though for tougher cases, feeding metro directly could be needed. TTM is always a good way to QT for ick and can be combined with prazi or GC for de-worming.

It will be difficult to help determine what happened to your tang without some pictures or a good description. Did he have any marks on his body before he died? Redness, white patches, spots or a dusty appearance? Breathing heavy? Tattered fins?
