Hey all, been a while since I am waiting on my tank to recover from either brook or velvet and haven't really had any questions. I was at my local petco yesterday and they have a yellow tang they have had for probably 6 months or more. First time I saw it, I noticed its fins looked a little rough. Over the last few months it has just gotten worse. The fish is healthy other than the fin rot but at this point it doesn't have top or bottom fins. It looks horrible. Is there any way for this fish to recover from the fin rot and them to grow back?

Sounds like bacterial infection in which case Antibiotics likely will help.

There’s lots of info on it here in the forums.

I personally just treated a tiny yellow tang with the same problem using Metro, Furan 2 and Kanaplex while in copper.

I just wasn't sure if the tang would ever recover from complete fin loss. Only fins it has left are the pectoral fins and the tail fin. He just bobs along in the tank.

Poor fish! Yes you can easily save this fish. Especially since it obviously is not suffering from ich or velvet. Any number of antibiotics will have have in shape rather quickly!

The poor fellow can indeed be helped.

I rescued a regal and yellow with like conditions and treated them for ~2 years. That's been around 8 years ago and today they are both in 5,000g vats at a nearby coral farm doing well.

If you have the patience, you can do this. And I really admire your resolve on this subject. Thank you.
