That is odd. Were they storebought or shipped?
Maybe they just had a really tough trip?

If not, it's concerning that both a fish and an invert would go downhill so quick

how did you cycle the tank? Were you adding any source of ammonia during the cycle? It is strange your ammonia went up if the tank was fully cycled just by adding a small goby.
