Yellow Watchman Goby not eating more than a bite

I purchased a Yellow Watchman Goby on Monday evening. He isn't really eating much at all.

Tuesday: No visible eating of Mysis, Spirulina, Krill mix frozen food.
Wednesday 1st feeding: nothing again.
Wednesday evening I switched to pure Mysis and added some GarlicGuard added to each meal from now forward. I saw him take one bite. I am really adding a lot of food as well to provide lots of opportunity to grab something.
Thursday 1st feeding was one bite taken.
Thursday 2nd feeding with a few bites eaten with target feeding in the evening.
Today 1st meal: Nothing
Today 2nd meal: I added some pellet food to the mix for dinner tonight and target fed to his hiding spot, but I didn't see him poke his head out to take any bites.

Twice this week he has spent a good bit of time during first feeding just coming out and swimming around near the top edges of the tank, ignoring the food right in front of his face.

In the morning he will be sitting out in the open until he catches movement from the family then he goes to his hiding spot. He hides so far back in his spot that you can't see him at all the rest of the time.

I didn't think of asking to see him eat at the store. I was just so pumped they had one of the fish on my list.

Any ideas?

Mine did that. Then he died after 2 days.

Do you have a lid? Might try to jump. if it's swimming around the top, it's looking for an out. No advise. You're feeding a varied diet and adding garlic. Nothing else you can do. Is it in a stressful situation at all? Any bullies? Does it have a pistol shrimp friend? That'll calm him right down.

I have a lid. No bullies, just a Carpenter Wrasse and McCosker wrasse that ignore him completly. No pistol shrimp and not an option in the next week unfortunately.

I wouldn’t be too worried he is most likely digging out his own pit. I lost a yasha goby in my 40 breeder for like 6 months then he popped up no worse for wear.

Well, you were correct. He completely disappeared for a few days. I figured he was probably dead way back in his hiding spot. I still spot fed to that spot, but without any real hope. Then yesterday my girlfriend spots him in a hole he had burrowed through on the other side of the rock. The rock is sitting on the bottom of the tank, but doesn't touch fully in all spots. I guess the little guy found a way under it all to the other side. We laughed and said it was a christmas miracle... lol.

Yep watchman gobies are very good about digging out a hole when a pistol is not in the system.
