I purchased a YWG from petco about a month ago and he's been in QT ever since. I put him in my DT last weekend and he is not at all yellow. He is a gray/white color with a black head but still has his blue spots. Are there ywg this color or is it possibly because he was in QT with no light or substrate? When I bought him he was a faded yellow. He's only about an inch long. Any ideas?

There is a possibility that he could be a Blue Spotted Watchman Goby. I personally have one that is completely dark grey, but based on some pictures I have seen, they can be tinged yellow as well.

What did you feed him? IME, fish start to lose their color if they are not eating properly, like when tangs do not eat algae.

I had a friend lose a YWG in his overflow for 18 months, when it came out, the color sucked, so that might have been because it had a bad diet living in the overflow.

He eats frozen mysis, LRS reef frenzy, and NLS theraA pellets. Although anytime I do see him eat it's one or two pellets, or one little mysis shrimp. He doesn't eat much.
