Yellow Watchman Goby turning white?

Hello! Anyone know why my yellow watchman goby is turning white? He also has black specks on him too. Wondering if this is a disease or something lacking in nutrition? Mostly on the head/gills but also down his back in patches too. Thank you!

Mine turned almost completely chalk white and was acting a bit squirrelly. Then he found his shrimp buddy, turned nice and yellow and settled down nicely. Been 4 months now. Figured stress.

Might not be the issue with yours. Just a possibility.

That’s interesting! Ours is new to the tank as well and has since gotten worse. We have a cleaner shrimp so maybe the same will happen for us? He is still eating fine and actingokay.

I've read that they can change colors as they age. Something about sex... like the females are grey... I'll try dig up something or maybe someone else will before me.

Apparently they can turn grey with blue specks.

Yellow watchman goby no longer yellow

My YWG is no longer yellow. Its color is more white/grey with blue spots. No hint of yellow for the past month or so. Normal? Or something else?

How new is new? Was he quarantined before adding him to the display?

I blew up the pictures, I don't think it looks at all as if he is changing color. He has got something. I couldn't blow up the tail fin area without it going fuzzy.

He will not pair with a cleaner shrimp (assuming "cleaner" is a skunk, blood, banded coral, peppermint shrimp). They pair with pistol shrimps, who work the sand, digging and building caves.

Was he like this when introduced? What are his tankmates?

Got to get him a pistol shrimp. watching the 2 of them together is awesome
