I got this fish about a week ago and he’s been acting fine and seemed to of paired with my tiger pistol shrimp. But today he came out which is rare and hasn’t gone back in the burrow. I tried target feeding him but he didn’t eat and now he’s just laying on sand and looks like it’s breathing heavy? My 2 clowns and cardinal Bangaii are all acting fine and been in tank for 2 months. Why is my yellow watchman having trouble?? I also have two 425 gph powerhead and the 265gph output pointed at surface of water. So should be plenty of oxygen in my biocube 32

How did you purchase the YWG? Was it shipped to you or did you purchase it at a LFS? I believe there was a similar thread here on R2R a few days ago where someone had similar issues with a YWG and it was suspected the fish had ammonia burns to the gills.

If it was shipped and it was acclimated slowly in the water the fish came in, the build up of ammonia from shipping can cause irreparable damage to the gills once the water in the bag is exposed to air. In these cases, it's recommended the fish is quickly moved out of the water it was shipped in into a separate batch of fresh saltwater that matches the temperature and salinity of the shipping water. Then that water can be acclimated to your tank's water conditions before transferring. (Or more ideally, moved to a QT tank.)

Yeah that other thread was also mine, I changed the prefix to that one as emergency since this thread got no attention. Sadly the fish died the next morning after QTing it with an airstone. Also bought fish from live aquaria

@muzikalmatt, yeah there was a thread earlier regarding the same thing.
