I keep getting a yellowish brown build up on the glass of my aquarium. I scrub it off but within a few days I see it coming back. my levels all seem to be fine. I just did a water change last week( I was hoping this would help it). do I need more snails, invertabrets? am I missing something else.:frusty:

Your going to get algae growth on your glass no matter what. Do you run GFO?

I'm not currently running gfo. could that be my issue? my tank is about 3 months old. 2 months with fish, 1 month to establish. I understand that there will always be algae, but it's been less than a week since I cleaned it and did a partial water change and the algae on the glass is already giving the tank a cloudy appearance. I have just purchase an ro for purer water...was using tap water before

Dss190 is correct.....you will most likely always see algae growth on the glass. How much is dependent upon the amount of nutrients in the water and the amount of light. Tap water unfortunately adds a lot of undesireables to the water that can fuel algae growth. Your tank is also pretty new....over time the amount of algae should decrease.

Diatoms on glass is a sign of a healthy tank. Scrape it off every few days. Snails, lawn mower Benny, and bristle mouth tangs eat it too

Its okay we all get it. Tap water makes it worst but for me tap water is convient in my apartment u can still have a beautiful tank just clean regularly. Invest in a cuc. Or clean up crew invest in gfo

Sorry for the late reply. I would definitely test your phosphate levels and see where they're at. Your tap water probably has a lot of nutrients in it. My tap water has like 250 tds. If you start using RO/DI water and make sure your nitrates and phosphates are on the low end you should definitely see an improvement. I would run carbon as well as it's going to get the dissolved organics out of your tank.

definitely improve her water quality which you are, increase your CUC, and run some phosphate absorbing media like GFO or phosguard
