Thanks Sixty, hoping I am on the right path. Brandon429. I dont think my sand is the issue. Its pretty clean, the flow in my tank keepsmthe sand moving and pretty stirred up, I have a conch that also stirs it up plus I do gravel vac it once in a while. I will give the link a read though for sure.

Sand is looking much better, 95% clear as of yesturday. Got no3 up finally as well, 5 ppm. Did a 10g water change and removed what cyano was left on the sand. So far so good.

I think I am winning. Cleaned off the rock yesturday and removed all the small patches of cyano. Sand is staying much cleaner and that was the real problem area.

I read somewhere that Chemiclean is only effective against spirulina and that H2O2 is effective against regular cyano. If so a microscopic ID would be helpful wouldn't it?

Is this true? Because I've seen you mention this a few times but i can't find a source

besides, I had a h2o2 reactive red slime that was knocked out by chemiclean 6 months ago. Then I went on vacation in August and my sitter dumped 5 days of food in at once and I came back to a huge cyano outbreak. About to hit it again with chemiclean after trying to remove it non-chemically

Oh No !!!
Yes- Huge water change, reduce white lighting, increase water flow if you can, Add Chemi Pure Blue and then add ChemiClean. Turn skimmer off the first 24hrs if running one
Also a great opportunity to clean skimmer and pump.

So you think chemiclean is good against h2o2 reactive red slime algae, i.e. Cyanobacteria? I understood your earlier posts to mean it's not, and it only kills spirulina.

Photo helps. You may be better off using Ultra Reef Red slime eliminator. ChemiClean makes one two but at twice the price. These are about $10

Do you have a source for the info? I'm not finding details that chemiclean doesnt work against cyano anywhere.

I have previous experience that it does work against h2o2 reactive red slime algae, so I'm just curious.

My confusion is coming from you telling people in several threads that chemiclean DOESNT work against Cyanobacteria, but does work against spirulina. And here you are providing info that it DOES work against Cyanobacteria. Just a little confused is all

I swear by ChemiClean when it comes to cyano. this or peroxide is only thing i'd use

Yes Chemi Clean is very effective at removing cyano. I have been using it for years successfully with no issues to treat cyano blooms.
So my possible cyano issue was/is really a dinoflagellates bloom. No3 and po4 had been nearly undetectable for months. I have been dosing bacteria, no3 po4 and DinoX and am slowly winning the battle. I did loose basically all my sps in the process sadly.
