Yes or no to condylactis anemone

I've got a 40 gallon breeder, 20 gallon sump (half full), 40 lbs rock. 2xclowns, 2x cleaner shrimp, and an orchid dottyback. Tank has been up for about 4 months.

Yay or nay to this anemone? I have 165 w light and plan to eventually add some corals. Including pictures of the anemone at the store (assuming it is on the corner trying to get more light and flow) as well as picture of my tank.

Tank has been running about 4 months and not to worried about hosting, just think anemones look cool and heard you should get then before corals. I just wouldn't want to get something that will be a huge p.i.t.a.

Doing a bit more research and I guess they have a stronger "sting" than other nems and can actually kill clowns that try to host them. So I guess that is a "no go" on the condy nem. Will probably just wait a few more months and just add some corals.

Condys are the most annoying anemones IMO. They have a voracious appetite (there are reports of them eating clowns and healthy fish) and they tend to move around a bit more than say a BTA. I'd just spend the extra $30-50 and get a BTA

I'd also wait. IMHO tanks take a minimum of 6 months to a year to really stabilize, which you want to happen before adding a nem. As far as a Condy eating a clown. It can happen but isn't likely. The problem with Condy's in my opinion is that they tend to move more than most nems so even adding them first and having them find their happy place in the tank is no guarantee that they won'd move a week or a month or a year down the road and damage a bunch of corals during the process. Not saying I wouldn't do it, just know what you're signing up for.

Thanks! I'm not too worried about finding a host - I kind of like my clowns bobbing all over the aquarium

Thinking maybe I should just stick with corals, since I've never kept corals, and keep it simple maybe a frogspawn or something similar.

Iv owned them and pain in the butt always on the move and like to float so powerheads need covering but iv also had bta that move all the time it all really is a gamble on any nems also condalactas nems are also mostly wild cought . Funniest thing was watching CBS and condi have at it

You could always go for a BTA or a rock flower

Good choice. I have all three in my tank mentioned above, a Condy, RBTA and a rock flower. The RBTA has split and now there are 5 and my Condy is the size of a softball. I have them in a 75g and it's getting tight. Lately I've been scrambling to move some coral because the nems are encroaching on them.

Here's a shot of my tank from a few months ago. The are 3 RBTA's (5 now) on the left
and the condy on the right. Condy moved up so I had to move the Leather down.

Great looking tank! Thinking about just doing a soft coral reef. Maybe xenia, mushroom, leathers... And avoid the hassle of something splitting or moving all over
