There is no way back!
The glass arrived today, so we have to pull through with this project from now on.
I yet have to detemine whether is will glue it as one single tank or as 3 part segmented tank for redundancy.

Each segment will be 2,5 meter and i favour a system without a sump, because i hate the (energy unefficient) idea of pumping large volumes of water up all the time.

I definitely would just make them separated tanks and not all one piece, unless its one giant piece of glass.

monday, september 6, 2021 we made a start building the first tank segment.
With the help of Leon and Tim we made preparations and glued the tank together.
Now waiting for the glue to cure before placing the braces.

Just finished placing the braces on tank1
I had a little help from my son, we placed them together within a half hour.
The prepartions however took a little bit longer. Three glasstrips were 2mm oversized and did not fit, so i had to cut them myself. The terpentine to fill the glass cutter was used up, so i had to go out for a new bottle.
After that cutting the glas was easy peasy.
Next time i will use 5-6mm tolerance for the braces

You cut the glass yourself? Thats not easy to do. Its a skill to learn on its own. Looking good! Whats your method of applying silicone?

I have cut glas from 3-10mm since i build my first tank at age 10, so no real challenge there. But true , you need to have the skills to do it.

This are the kitting tools

Definitely following along for this one!

Did you double the glass at the bottom and step in the top piece to set your side panels in?
The bottom is a single 10mm glas panel.
The sidepanels are glued against it.
This way the sides can handle more force. The bottom is going nowhere.

#panoramareef section1 into final position
Clamps removed from tank1 + extra kit on braces
Moved 140 liter development tank to diningroom
My friend Stefan came and together we move tank1 into it's final position.
Cleared the stand for section 2+3 as preparation to extend this stand with 1 meter.

This makes me want to go get a job for 3mos at a Tank Builder Company so I could learn these skills

Unfortunately the closest one to me is GlassCages in Tennessee
The advantage of designing and building your own is that you are never dependent on others.
It's so annoying when they make promises and don't deliver.

I want to buy a 8ft 315g Planet but been hearing their black silicone work in non-crucial areas is sometimes pretty sloppy in this Covid hard-to-find-workers era

People these days have no pride in their work anymore.

I think you're about 310 miles south of me.

That would be quite the commute unless I slept in one of your barns.

It would be a total bucket list things to learn how to build a tank.

But have you seen the ponds? It needs to go home? I'd be fishing in those the whole time.

Oh yeah we have very time consuming hobbies....
