You deserve a time out!

Ok, my sailfin tang is beating up my Naso tang for a week now. The LFS guy said to put the sailfin in my sump for several days and then reintroduce him. That this will give the smaller Naso a chance to come out from hiding and hopefully eat. Has anyone had any luck with this method for dealing with a bully?
Ive tried the mirror and moving rocks around.

How big is your tank?Some species just don't click together unless they are introduced at the same time and sometimes that still doesn't work! It is aggressive towards its own species and conspecifics at times.

My Sailfin did the same thing, in the end i was forced to find him a new home. Such a great fish but didnt like my naso or my kole. I still have my naso and kole to this day too.

We have a 72g bowfront. But i just found out from my wife that when they got home...both tangs were swimming around together!
Im praying it stays this way. Both tangs are very beautiful.

That tank is way too small for those two fish IMO. They both get pretty huge.

I wouldn't put a show fish in a sump!Too many variables there...Stress from noise could cause a disease,not enough room,parasites.

You really don't have an appropriate tank to house all those tangs. :/ Even if you sumped him (and a few days is really not enough time) they most likely will not get along. Tangs can be tricky to mix at the best of times. 72 is bare minimum for one tang as well, IMO, and too small for a naso at all. They get pretty big - their top size is a foot and a half!!

EDIT:
Min. recommended tank size for sailfins and nasos is 180g. The sailfin tops out at 1' 4". You've got too much tang there, plain and simple.

Ok, well thats why i ask. I know these tangs will get bigger. They aren't that big now but the day will come.
Hopefully when i get home things will be ok.

If you do decide to try the sump, he'll need a week or two in there, and for the full effect the rockwork needs to be changed around so he's not coming right back to his own territory (in his little fishy mind). This is best done just after removing the aggressor so that the naso has a chance to build confidence.

Looks like i wont have to put the sail in the sump after all.

Well...sad to say that the Naso is our first casualty. He didn't make it this morning.

That size tank is nowhere near what it needs to be for two of the larger tangs out there. Even when small these are very active fish and need plenty of space to themselves.

Should be plucky enough, I imagine. Be aware that they are known to pick at corals.

I still vote for removing the sailfin entirely.

time-out wont help because the fish will still know the territory. I used to do it with fw fish all the time. they need to be introduced at the same time, so you would need to put both the fish in time out and rearrange the rock work so they are both introduced to a new tank

imo- tangs in a small tank isnt right!! :nono: its like keeping a great dane in a crate its whole life :help: , well not really you go to jail for that :squigglemouth:
