You guys know what these are?

I was looking at my refugium today and noticed these furry white bulbs growing on one of the rocks. Started looking around the display and found little ones all over the base of some frag plugs I recently put in there. All were frags from the same place. Took each frag out and scraped these bulbs off.

What are they?

Yeah, pineapple sponges. They help reduce silicates in your water.

im not sure if i belive that is true anymore, they are calcareous sponges so they should reduce the calcium ions in the water, not the silicates

Well thank you! I have some in my tank, and was told the silicate thing by several people so I took it as truth.
