Our newly acquired YWG was struggling to settle in our DT and after 36 hours I saw he was being nipped by our clowns as he insisted on hanging out on the glass above their cave. I have read that it often takes these guys quite a while to settle but when I saw the clowns had torn his fins I thought enough was enough. We have moved him to our 60 litre QT to allow him to settle. We should have quarantined him (them) initially (of course) but were advised by the LFS that he would not carry ich - I am kicking myself now as we have a QT set up for this specific purpose.
He is paired with a tiger pistol who is happily building the lair in the DT. The goby was getting a sunken stomach, looked stressed and was being bothered by the clowns. On the off chance I tested the water for Nitrite and Nitrate and the nitrate showed 0.14 ppm (Nitrate was also high at 23 ppm) so I called it and moved him upstairs to the QT last night. He was in the burrow with the shrimp for at least a few hours and we thought all was good, but then he seemed to have gotten restless and decided he wanted to climb the walls. He seems to be much happier now, he's settled in the QT and is eating. We're feeding a mixture of frozen meaty foods (mysis, lobster eggs). I'll try him on some copepods in solution tomorrow. I've ordered some of this - Selcon as well which I will try and soak some meaty dried pellets in.
I wanted to reach out and post - looking for help/preparations to help him recover to full health so we can reintroduce him to the display tank and his pistol shrimp, who we have named Clint. Clint is amazing - we have heard his gunshot a few times and he really is something to observe when he is constructing.
