Hi All,

I have an aluminium tank stand and noticed yesterday I was getting an unpleasant tingling where one arm touched the stand and my other arm was in the water. Nothing serious, but I imagine this is stray current. I investigated a bit further and I think it is coming from my brand new Tunze Silence Pro. Tingling goes away when it is unplugged.

Is this stray current and is any level of it acceptable. Should I be changing the pump out ASAP?

Get a ground probe and plug it into a gfci protected outlet

I would replace the pump too.

I just went through the same thing with one of my powerheads. I started unplugging things one by one to find out who the culprit was and once that happened it was thrown into the trash post haste. I thought about keeping it to mix up saltwater, but for the price of a new one it just wasn't worth the risk.

Being brand new, I would return it for replacement. If the second one does it, i'd look at different pumps :)

Stray current is something the manufacturer should take seriously and replace it no cost to you.
