Zebra Eel owners - I have questions

Just curious for those of you with larger zebra's...

1. How big around are they? (How girthy are they)
2. Did you make PVC eel tubes for them? If so what diameter did you use?

We dont have a zebra, but we do have a Tess that is over 4 foot and about as big as a small arm in diameter. We have used both 3 1/2 & 4 inch abs to make some really nice tubes with angles and Ts. But our eel has figured out that he can force his way between the tube and rocks and make his own tunnels. We love him but he makes an awful mess of the rocks.
