I have someone on livestock sale that wants me to use zelle payment and is not accepting PayPal goods and services currently because he is in a dispute with someone who is trying to scam some equipment from him. My question is, is there any way that Zelle is considered safe to use on Reef to Reef or is Zelle considered not allowed as a usable form of payment on Reef to Reef

With Zelle there’s no dispute or refund. With PayPal you can get dispute and your money back.

The reason R2R wants you to use Paypal goods and services because it has protection for both parties. While zelle is just passing money and not protected at all

I am agreeing that this is very questionable on his part. The reason he says that he’s not using his PayPal account is because somebody is trying to scam him on some equipment that he sold them how it came up in the first place was that he agreed to come down to a certain number if I done cash app or zeal I Held off because it’s a little more money than I wanted to spend So I waited a few days and I agreed to pay the original asking price and he no longer wants to do PayPal

So I guess at this point I assume that the only acceptable means a payment per Reef to Reef is PayPal goods and services or is there another form of payment that is protected? I guess that’s more than anything to question or is it just PayPal?

Reef2Reef can't really force you on what you would want to do with your money.
That sounds really risky. It's up to you whether you take that risk being it's a good deal or you're in a rush. But best to wait or look for another.
When comes to zelle, customer support will not do anything for you when comes to transactions like these as Zelle is used for friends and family that you trust.
Good Luck

I appreciate all the feedback and I started this thread not just for me. I have looked for any information on zelle on the site and have found very few articles so I wanted to start something so that there would be a reference of something else that is acceptable to use. Or if it’s just goods and services there is some gray area there I not sure what services have protection or not also I was wondering if I should turn this over to the moderators I would hate for someone else to get scammed it seems very suspicious to me when your willing to pay the extra money it would cost for goods and services and it’s still a no can’t do that

Zelle is similar in safety to PayPal friends and family- Pure risk

Venmo offers a spot to click when sending the money to make it so it's refundable. It offers a level of protection. Never had to use it so I can't speak to how much protection but it's there

Sounds like a possible scam on you.
If it's too good to be true, it probably is.

Yeah dont do it man. I got scammed with zelle once as well.

Zelle is not permitted via the Reef2Reef Rules:

  • Sellers are not allowed to ask buyers to send money via unprotected methods of payment (this includes PayPal's Friends and Family option, unprotected Venmo, Western Union, or any other option that sends funds with no protection to the buyer). If you are found to be asking for payments as a gift or via unprotected payment, your sales thread will be removed and you may lose your selling privileges all together. For more on this, please read the announcement HERE.

Again, I started this thread not because I got ripped off. I did not buy anything. I did this for the topic as I really had a tough time finding anything on zeal to keep this in front of everybody’s eyes when they buy stuff my Reef tanks are full and beautiful, I don’t need to buy anything else but I like stuff and I like to buy higher end coral, if I buy anything, I will have to let something else go to make room for it. I hope everybody enjoy this hobby as much as I do.

This sounds 100% sketchy. This would be a hard pass to me. Got scammed this way using friends and family cause the seller asked me too to avoid fees and lower the price. Got scammed. Thats before I knew enough about paypal as that was the first time I ever used it. I wouldnt bother

After I wrote him a bad review, I felt pretty terrible for doing so in case this guy was legit but with all this feedback, I feel much better about my decision and it doesn’t bother me that he gave me a bad review. This feedback was worth it.
