Is a manual reactor just as good as your zeomatic reactor except the convenience?

As long as you can shake up the Zeolight media to release any build-up, a manual reactor will work just fine.

Our Zeomatic reactor does provide the convenience of automatically shaking up the media and is easy to clean and maintain.

Are there recommended reactors for smaller volume aquariums? I have 55 gallons of total water. How much zeolight would you recommend for a medium-low stocked aquarium?

A 1 liter zeolite reactor such would be sufficient if you have the space for it in your sump. A 55 gal system would use 500g of Zeolith, half of the 1 liter container.
