Does anyone know what types of bacteria are in Zeobak? Are they nitrifying? What role do they play? It says they remove unwanted substances. But what substances do they remove exactly. I know it’s recommended to run the whole program but I’m trying to understand a little bit more of what they do

See if anyone is around tonight running zeo. Bump

It's a nitrifying bacteria. What's in it they never tell you. All of their products are proprietary. It works well. I ran zeo for years and use it to dose my tank once in a while to refresh the bacteria population. I also run vodka as a carbon source. With the zeo system the zeo start is the carbon source.

Ok thanks. So nothing special about it then. It’s quite expensive for a nitrifying bacteria in that small of a bottle.

It's very concentrated. You use 3 drops every other day. Instead of 10ml a week. It's about the same price as a big bottle of nitrifying bacteria. But as with all zeo stuff it does have a higher price tag. But honestly it's some of the most potent stuff out there for its size

I was always told to make sure you sont wind up with a mono culture to dose it over time

Sounds like a marketing pitch.

First, what’s wrong with a monoculture?

Second, what is the evidence that it happens?

I never thought about that
I dont know, always figured that a diverse culture is better at out competing dinos and cyano

And I have no evidence at all. Just what I've read over the years.

Is there any studies on this? A way to test for bacterial strains within a system?

I always wondered this too, i am almost completely free of dinos after months of fighting it and i think it was due to me adding tons of bacteria like microbacter7 and dr tims aswell as dosing phosphates and nitrates.
