Zibba's Reefs

Oh, I almost forgot some other exciting news: A few weeks ago we got a male ruby red dragonet hoping that it would pair up with our female and it did! They started doing this mating dance every night around 10:00 p.m.

Kwoww took the video with her cell phone and posted it to instagram, I have no idea how else to link it here so I'm just going to attach the website. Hope it works

Sorry to hear about the rhomboid. They are absolutely gorgeous fish and I think no tank should be without one.

I am currently on the search for a rhomboid myself. Lost my male a little over a year ago, presumably to old age, but I don't know for sure. The female took a ride down the overflow and got caught in a filter sock and died shortly after so it is time to replace them.

Btw... Nice job on the new tank. Everything looks to be settling in well for the most part.

Awesome video man, I always wanted to pair my mandarin up but never came across any females. Sorry about the wrasse, your acro pictures look awesome though.

Hey are you going to cover your tank? I'm looking to get an euro braced tank but I don't the fish to jump out.

That's a really cool tank! I'm currently build a 375 gallon (Money Pit) - I would love to hear any do's and don't that you might have.

The tank looks fantastic! Love it all!

Thanks for the compliments everyone!

markalan, we covered the tank with mesh from bulk reef supply and a screen door kit from home depot. I need to re-do it though since it didn't fit exactly how I was expecting.

craigpierce, this hobby is definitely a money pit so at least you recognize that right off the bat! I'm sure I'm missing a lot but here's start for dos/donts:

Do: buy quality equipment the first time (reliability, warranties and customer service go a long ways in this hobby); research everything (corals, fish compatibility, equipment choices, etc.); take your time with aquascaping (and everything in general); and, be sure to take time to just sit quietly and watch your reef as often as possible. :)

Don't: keep track of how much you spend or get caught up in hyped corals (buy things because you truly enjoy them).

Here's a new starfish that's been cruising around our reef for the last month or so. Hoping for long-term success in this bigger tank:

Haven't updated in awhile so I dusted off the camera yesterday. Let's just start things off with an updated FTS:

Things are continuing to settle in. Growth and colors have been solid and the fish are sorting out the pecking order. I've experimented with upping the AcroPower dosing, but brought it back down after seeing a little more green-cyano type slime on the sand bed. We have lost a few fish in QT along the way--most recently a male lineatus wrasse that was gorgeous--but I'm trying to remind myself that that's part of this hobby. I'm just about done adding tangs (last one I'm looking for is a nice juvi dussumier) but I reserve my right to add another if it strikes my eye. ;)

I usually use a flash for my fish pictures, however, I decided to try something different during last night's photo session. Hope you enjoy a few of these new fish pictures:

I don't think convicts get enough credit; I think they're stunning tangs and they're hard working fish!

Our juvi desjardini tang is starting to get cool markings around its face (they grow up so fast!):

I don't think I've shared a picture of this fish in a long time. It's an Elegant Coris Wrasse (Coris venusta). Not nearly as colorful as others I've seen but it's such an active hunter and a very peaceful fish in my tank (unless you're a pod):

This is the newest addition: a Whitetail Bristletooth tang, which we picked up in San Diego. It was super shy in QT but it's very active and hangs right in the mix with the other fish now that it's in the display. I always said, "I'd never pay that much for a whitetail kole tang." But the price was right and, in person, the fish was much more breath-taking than I could imagine, so we bagged it up. It's a great addition and the contrast is really something else.

I love this fish: a Blonde Naso tang that we've had for a few months now. Was active and personable in QT and hasn't changed now that it is in the display. Hoping to watch it mature over the years to come:

One more snap-shot of the blonde "flexing" -- too bad it wasn't in focus as I was trying to get a picture of the sps pictured, but I though it was worth sharing:

At heart, I love SPS reefs but my obsession with mushrooms has been growing for the past few years. I've had most of these for awhile but they kept detaching and spent several months in a mushroom cage until they reattached so I haven't gotten to enjoy or take pictures of them. They're finally settled into a nice spot in the main display where I can appreciate and share pictures of them.

This first one is my current favorite. I picked it up from Brandon (zoanthid.com) in Denver at MACNA. It has continued to grow and is becoming more stunning as the bubbles form and the teal blue gets more intense.

I don't think this one needs an introduction, but it's name is deserving: the original Jawbreaker mushroom.

This one came from a local store and is turning out to be a stunner:

This massive radiant orange yuma is center stage of the smaller ADA. It is currently part of a grow-out for our local coral auction (it has split off a few babies that are growing out right now):

Hope you enjoy!

It has lost color under the LEDs and I’m not sure exactly why that is. It’s at a point now where it’s too big to move it around in the tank. Still a fun coral to watch table out.

Just about killed it in November but covering it in glue when trying to remount; then it fell off again and found it during a water change as I almost siphoned it out of the tank. Has been remounted now for a month and is coming back. Little booger, but it’s a pretty one.

Fantastic progression images. Beautiful corals and fish. The Flexing image is my favorite in the group.

Wow, your corals are really growing well. I enjoyed all the fish shots as well. I think sometimes we get way to caught up in the corals in our tanks, and forget about the swimming inhabitants.

Great photos as usual.

Beautiful display Eric and the progression shots are awesome.

Awesome stuff Eric, great color!

Wow stunning!!

Thank you all so much! I appreciate the support.

Go figure, two days after posting the picture of the jawbreaker, I came home to fine that it as stung/eaten by the lobo that's nearby. Completely destroyed. Bummer!

Have a great week all!

Still one of my favorite tank thread to watch. :)

And ok, this explains those stick growth picks I saw on fb. Didn't know it was from you LOL.
