So recently my zoa’s all closed up. I had a diatom problem but have since corrected the issue now most of my zoa’s are opening but my Rasta and Eagle eye colonies are staying kinda closed. Any ideas why this would be happening? I’ve been checking every night and haven’t seen any pests plus I have a wrasse. My parameters are:

Alk:9:3
Calcium: 460
Mag:1470
1.025

Nothing else seems to be struggling in the tank other then zoa’s even my other soft corals like leathers are doing good. I have other zoa’s and palys doing good as well. LPS, nems and montipora all doing good. I’m running 3 bags of carbon in case of chemical warfare. I reduced my lighting by 15% on my radion xr15 pro. I checked the zoa’s for zoa poc and have found nothing. Also I don’t see fish or snails bothering them. A few individuals in the zoa’s are open but they look dull. I have another colony of king Midas that are all open but also look dull. I was thinking to little light but it doesn’t make sense because my eagle eyes are in the middle of the tank and my Rastas are near the bottom so it doesn’t seem like a lighting issue. I have an API phosphate test kit which I know aren’t great but I believe it tested at
.25 or .5 kind of hard to read those things. I’m running a small bag of phosguard. Ammonia, nitrate, nitrite are showing undetectable by my API test kits which is pretty normal for my tank I have very light stock only 4 fish in my 45g. I use fritz pro rpm salt and I change 5g every 7 days religiously lol. Anyways some help or suggestions would be appreciated. I know some might say to dose NO3 but I don’t want to spike diatoms again.

Hey I'm no expert but maybe you have your water to clean after getting rid of the diatoms. I know zoas like dirty water and you say you don't want to dose n03 so maybe just give it a little time. Also you reduced lighting so maybe they are use to more lighting and reaching out a bit. Maybe give them a week or two and just watch ? Just my theory sorry I don't have much concrete answers here but bumping this post for you

+1 on the possibility.
I went from 5% weekly water changes to 10% not too long ago and corals weren’t looking as nice. Went back to 5% weekly water changes and everything has looked better.
