So working on my aqua scalp and trying to fit my first piece into the foundation rock and I fell in love. My question is if I left this a shelf for say a Zoa would it stay to it or do I risk it taking the base over as well as moving up the scape I build going up?

Zoas can and will spread to any surface they can contact. So, yes they would climb up the rock.

Create a garden on separate rock similar to what I did

I would do a zoa garden on an island not in contact with the main rock. Here is a picture of mine. Good luck.

That's a really nice zoa garden!

I'm working on a zoanthid study with a couple of people I'm in grad school with. I posted a link below to the survey. Basically we are contrasting zoanthid weekly growth vs tank parameters to make a zoanthid growth predictive model. It would be awesome to follow a couple of colonies in your garden over some amount of time. If you decide to submit some data we would be super grateful, if not, it's no big deal!

Get yourself a rock similar to this and plant different zoa variety to start your garden

Are you looking at palythoa as well? I just ordered 3 frags and would be happy to track and give data.

How high up close to the lights will zoas/palys grow if i place them low. If I want cetrain ones up top can i just acclimate them to that hight on a frag rack?

I just ordered 3 play frags and thinking about doing a zoa/paly mountain.

This is my current aquascape- I would remove the rocks with x’s and put them somewhere else and place the zoas and palys on the big island in the green circle.
