As I sit here waiting for FedEx to deliver my latest zoa acquisitions, I am wondering... Do any of you have zoa collections, or do you all just randomly buy stuff based on price, looks, colors, etc?

What I mean is, I have several types of zoas, but I've started collecting certain ones. Like, I am working on getting all the "Krak" zoas (Only one left to get!), or all the Star Wars themed ones (Halfway there!), or all the "Hornet" types I can find (It never ends with these!). Sometimes there are even collections within collections! Darth Mauls fit in the Star Wars theme, but then there are Gold Mauls and Emerald Mauls too!

Is it just my OCD, or do other people do this too? What makes you buy what you buy? :D

I definitely want to own every krak Zoa, as well as Greek themed- and I know some people religiously hunt for hornets :)

I like bold contrasts large polyps.
Too often, you see a beautiful zoa, you purchase it off a site and when you receive it, you need a microscope to view it.
They are beautiful but TINY lol

The names are arbitrary, I buy what I like and I like most all Z’s&p’s. The real trick is keeping everything alive so the collection isn’t turning over every 18 months.

I knew I could count on you to show up and make me feel inadequate! :D

I have a thing for zoas with green skirts. Hallucination, Reverse Hallucination, LSOH, Rainbow Eclipse, GMK, Rainbow Incinerator, Purple Monster, Blueberry fields. The rest are random.

I'm new to zoas but right now my thought is "brightest= best" I prefer corals that grow, but not at a crazy rate.

My favorite one in my brand new collection is a medium size pink one. The guy I bought it from called it a playboy bunny, but it doesn't have a green center, so I guess I don't know!

Can't beat a nice bold bright polyp. As for names, I will try to keep track in case I pass on frags to local club members but personally I really don't care.

One thing I HAVE noticed is that some of these are just so close to one another in terms of coloration. For example, I have queen midas and scrambled eggs. At least from my frags the only difference is the dark center on the scrambled eggs. Could have been fine with me or the other. Sorry for the offer topic rant. I guess my point is that I prefer variety in my collection.

I can’t keep track of them. I probably have 30-40 diff ones and other than blue eyed blondes, rasta, blue lagoon and pink diamonds I can’t really remember any of the other names. Wish I could. Maybe I should go back and see what I bought and mark them in my pictures so I can remember.

My first love will always be zoas. The first mistake of mine was buying a 30g im ext tank to collect zoas in. Found out how fast the collection grows and the zoas themselves grow. Got 2 tanks going for zoas at the moment. Plan on expanding the amount of tanks i have for them in the future. The addiction is real.

So... I'm up to 13 different Hornets now. I also have all the Star Wars themed zoas except for Darth Revan (cough @littlebigreef cough), and all the Kraks.

Next one my list is Exosphere. I can already see where this is going. I think I need some professional help! :D

I've got maybe 40 different ones some rare. But if you asked me to name any of them you would just get a blank stare.. I have them written down but I can't put the names with any of them. I've moved them. Transfered to disks etc.. lost track months ago.

You just have to keep in mind what you actually want. Proper collecting can definitely scratch that itch in the back of your mind if you don't manage to beat it into submission with your wallet, having ALL of something is weirdly intriguing, and if you are going for nice sorted columns and rows in a frag tank museum display style then that's great

But if you want to create nice looking underwater landscapes, having 10 varieties with the same pattern and slightly different colors that you need to integrate all of because they are your prized possessions, can be unfortunate

Mostly just prices. I see some that I love the color and it’s a great price. Zoas don’t seem that special to me….for those $50 a pop!

What are all the different kraks? How many are there? And do you have a pic of your krak collection.

There are 6 or 7 types (depending on how you count) that I know of.

I have all of those, and thats all that I know of. I was planning on getting the Predators anyway, even if they weren't a "true" Kraks.

My phone won't attach pictures for some reason, but I'll add pics when I get back to my PC.

I just recently got into zoanthids. I have 1 small rock that I started my Zoa garden on. It’s small so I can’t keep many. I currently have gmk’s, predators, Chiquita's, and some unnamed ones. I really love the green and yellow skirts on the predators and gmk’s. I am thinking about getting acid reflux.

I like small colonies next to each other.

Nope, that's never happened to me.
