Can anyone tell us what has taken over our Zoa colony?

Thank you!

Looks like a combo of gha and caulerpa algae. not 100% sure on the "caulerpa algae." The roots on the plant will take over that rock it's on. It looks like it's already starting to grow into the pours of the rock. Pluck it off the zoas

It is only in this rock. It started on the zoas and taking over and now is starting to show up on the rock. So we just need to pluck it like a weed? Lol

Pluck everything you can get and throw it away don't let any of it lose in the tank. If you have a big enough tank get a foxface they eat this stuff like pigs....when you pluck it don't let it lose, because you'll help it to spread on to other places.

Pull out as much as you can. Try not to let any float around or it will take root some were else. You might need to get some hermits or Snails that eat GHA.

Snails and hermits won't eat long gha. Theyll only eat it when it's short..ime

We have hermits and snails. Will they help clean it?

What if we remove the Zoa, put it a containment bucket and pluck it there?

What about the green algae looking stuff in the middle?

Tank is a 100 gallon.

Plucking it in a different container is a good idea just make sure to rinse it before it go back to the dt.....make sure to get the roots of the green stuff, get a foxface, rabbit fish or a tang they eat that stuff or you can put it in your refugium to grow and reduce nitrates.

So put the Zoa colony in the sump after I clean it?

A FoxFace will take care of that. If your having algae issues try to keep your NO3 and PO4 in check.

No the stuff that looks like caulerpa the zoas can go to the display tank just keep an eye on it

I think he ment the stuff you pick off the zoas put in your sump. Don't put the zoas in your sump.

Okay makes more sense. Still learning. Hope the zoas come back. Seems like over the last month all our coral is going down hill and we don't know why. This is about all that is left.

Do you test your water weekly? Cal, Alk, Mg, NO3 and PO4?

I usually check it every other week or so. I can upload our last water test if needed.

If coral is dying that would be my first step to seeing why. If they are all in range then I would look at light/flow/temp/salinity. Somewhere there is something not where it is supposed to be when things start dying.

Maybe it's the water you're using... could be causing problems...???

I agree but can't find it. We have a RODI we use.

Maybe your lights are too strong for your corals or too weak. It could also be where they are placed or they are being moved around too much. Idk kinda weird if things are just dying. There should be a solution to that problem
