in a colony, does the colony feed individual polyps? I have a rasta colony, and the polyps have started growing under the ledge the colony sits on. still fully colored. only ambient light reflected off the bottom. or do we think they are feeding from the water?

Both! Zoa’s are both a soft and hard coral and the feeding structure has a mouth and also a stony shell/Cartledge casing. Light feeds it but you also have to have food in the water column. So to answer your question you’re right in both regards. It’s the only Coral that feeds off light and food but has a structure that feeds off of both.

Hi! There is actually another thread here on the zoa forum that asks the same question. I shared my two cents and a few others had some input as well
