I have always used Carbon and have Replaced it Weekly for 5 Years.

In the last year I have gotten Gung Ho about Zoanthids and have like 100 Frags right now.

But I have No Zoanthids from My First Four Years of Reefing since they all Died.

I just Blamed it on Zoanthid Nudi's and Spiders since I never Dipped for the First Four Years.

In the last year I have Dipped all my Zoanthids in Revive for the Full 15 Minutes and Blasted them with a Turkey Baster.

I have not Lost a Single Zoanthid Frag in the Last Year.

So I assumed it was Pests in the Past that got in because I Did Not Dip.

But I now am worried that maybe it was Too Much Carbon that Killed Them Slowly.

I keep Buying and Buying them up right now and am very scared that it all could crash one day so I want to do everything perfect.

I just stopped using GFO today and am debating on getting rid of the Carbon too. (My LFS Told me not to use either GFO or Carbon because it is Bad for All Coral and should only be used in Emergencies).

But what if I am already too late and exposed them to too much Carbon and GFO?

What do you think?

Am I Screwed?
Can I Still Save Them?
Or do I have Nothing to Worry About?

Nice actintic pics man! Great looking polyps! Hopefully I can see your tank when I move down there, hoping to move just north of Miami soon. Or maybe next time I visit the area if your up for it.

That reef guy, you have been using carbon and gfo for 5 years, I think a few tablespoons won't hurt anything. Carbon and Gfo won't be harmful to your aquarium if you have been running it for a while. Even if you up the amount some. Its when a tank that isn't used to having that filtration running is introduced to to much at once when problems start. Your local fish store told you not to use it because it's bad for all corals? Wow, never heard that before... Some people do use them just for emergencies, since they certainly are not a requirement of having a nice reef tank. Just don't add a ton and you won't have to worry about them dying period, let alone fast or slow. :) Sorry Josh don't mean to steal your thread...

What? Reefguy has been around for 5 years? I haven't even been aroun for 3. Hit me up when you are around.
 
Haha, yea three years, trust me you make a lot of the people who have been around the hobby for a while, jealous with thoes pics!

I have been on a zoa kick lately and have dropped about 1K in the last six months buying and growing out frags. Had a heater malfunction(titanium heater never again) which wiped me out so not ready to show yet but its coming back in force!

Lol. So since I got your attention now I guess. What should I do with these things when I get em. Dip em? Put em in my qt? Start in low light? Probably simple questions but they will be my first corals. If I can keep these alive I'll need more ... hint hint.

I use coral RX to dip for 15-20 minutes. I use a baster to make sure there's no nudis or anything bad on the frags. Low light to start any zoa up is good. Then you can move wherever you want. Buy eagle eyes or some pretty nice cheap zoa to try.
 
I picked up eagle eyes, sunny d ' s, ring of fire and scrambled eggs. Also got a burning ember pally frag and a acan lord frag. Trial by fire here I guess. Lol. Ty for your advice I'll be watching for some frag packs from you!
