I’ve noticed my zoas slowly decline over the past few weeks and observed giant, mysis sized Amphipods swarming the tank at night. They’ve recently started picking at the zoas that are now no longer opening at all. My tank doesn’t have any predators for these guys so the population is getting out of control. Will a yellow coris wrasse solve this problem?

Dipped just three frags and look at how many fell off!

Amphipods are scavengers, they eat what's dying or dead. If they are eating your zoas something else is killing them. They may also be eating stuff that's growing on the mat of the zoas. They could even be eating some pest that is eating zoas, as there are many.

Will a wrasse eat these? Certainly, almost any fish will (my tang loves the big fat ones that come out at feeding time), but I don't think a wrasse will make your zoas happy. Also, these guys are more active at night when the wrasse is asleep so it will probably not make a noticeable dent.

That species of pods absolutely eats Zoas!

Appreciate you finding this thread! I’ll get my zoas moved up high on a frag rack in the meantime.
