If I am buying some zoas online, and the company feeds them regularly, can I just buy them and let them feed off light and my water and fish poop? Or should I gradually take them off hand feeding? I have never experimented with hand feeding in fear of algae blooms

I've never fed my zoas and I'm not sure how one would hand feed (maybe they mean target feed with small turkey bastor). Most zoas are fine with just light, if your tank is newer your more likely to get algae issues than accelerated growth from feeding them.

Just use a turkey blaster and feed all your corals once every three days with reef roids.
