Hey all,
I have a quick question, I have a rather large colony of both sunny D and rasta zoa. They started growing into each other. I don't see them stinging each other, but will the sunny D grow over the rasta, shading them and killing them? The sunny D are extending way higher than the rasta zoa are. Both colonies are 100p+ I still have a lot of rasta and am curious if i should frag them and move them? or will they coexist together. any feedback is helpful in this situation.
Thanks

Never experienced it, but from what I have read there are 3 possible outcomes.... two of them being that one over grows the other.... or they coexist and "morph" with each other. I would assume this is fine since I see tanks with gardens of different color zoanthids all the time. hope this helps

The most likely situation is that the taller zoanthids will crowd out the smaller ones.
They may get along fine for a while.
I have different types of zoanthids grow together and I just kind of keep a eye on them and when it looks like one colony is not doing well, I'll move them.

ya that was my concern that the sunnyD would out grow the rasta. i will try and frag most of them if I can and move them. will be hard tho cause they are on my base rock. Im really starting to hate these Sunny Ds...

If they are getting along right now, why not just leave them be.
Keep a eye on where they meet and see if there really is a war going on.

I have several different zoanthid colors growing into each other, and as long as one doesn't start taking over I'm going to leave them as they are.
But as soon as one does start causing problems, then I will have to do something.

Let them stay big healthy colonies. It's a awesome sight when they get big.

They are already growing into each other and I've lost some rasta polyps due to them being shaded by the sunny D. So they are not fighting chemically, but they are fighting for the light. the sunny D are shading the rasta. so i think i may have to move em. they are chemically fighting.
