so I got this large (too large) shelf rock from my LFS when setting up the tank and it came with some not cool palys on it

my evil plan involved plopping the old galaxea coral next to them for some zapping madness. Alas, galaxea has failed to accomplish this. YOU HAD ONE JOB

so galaxea has to go elsewhere, but it makes me think I could maybe do a zoa garden there? I'd have thought it would be too high up for zoas (1 ai prime HD over the tank), but apparently not since those things are doing fine.

I saw a video about a zoa garden and the guy also had acans mixed in, so my question is, what else can do I in that area? I was thinking of doing some soft corals closer to the overflow. weeping willow toadstool, kenya tree, gorgonians, stuff like that. would that stuff sting the zoas/acans? would the zoas/acans sting the bases of those frags? should i start with the tree stuff first, then fill in around them with zoas?

also, no looking at my ghetto screen top!

I am not super experienced on the details of mixing them together, but I can say, the Acans have pretty short stingers compared to other LPS. Around 2”. The other corals you mention, Toadstool, Kenya, Zoas, all fight with toxins, not stingers.

that seems entirely more concerning. so if I cram stuff in there with the softies, they might release toxins? Doesn't seem like I want to do that then lol ;)

With large softy populations, running activated carbon in a media bag or reactor will help control the toxins.
