Zoa help

I have the follwoing Aquarums

55 Gallon
29 Gallon
20 Long
Frag Tank
10 Gallon

If I were to make any of those all Zoanthids like your Aquarium what would you recommend for Flow (Hydor Koralia Power Heads).

Thank you to all that helped. At this point I am just sitting back observing. I feel for sure that one group is closed up because they were getting stung. I will just leave them be and see what happens. For the other group, I will also let them be. They will either make it or they don't. I'm not going to do anything differently as I don't want to hurt the other corals in my tank.

Joshporksandwhich, thanks for the info and steering me away from the dirty water theory. I appreciate it.

Bradsreeeftank, thanks for the info. I looked again at night and I don't see anything. I don't know. I will look again in a little while to verify it but not thinking nudibranches. All of my other ones look good. Had this happen once before to another colony and they came back fine after a few weeks. We shall see.

Im open to info if anybody else has any. Thanks again.
Rob

I looked at everything with a flashlight again and saw nothing but Copepods and amphipods. Just thought of something. My alk recently dropped down to about 6 or so. I started dosing and water changes brought it back up. Could this have caused it and if so why just those two? I am just now starting to have to dose due to fluctuations in tank from growth. Don't think this was the cause but you never know I guess. Time will tell.

Yes alk swing might have caused it. You shouldn't increase alk by more than 1.5-2 points a day or you can stress a lot of things.

also get a wrasse to eat your amphipods, I've heard a lot recently about amphipods irritating and actually eating zoas, any reef safe wrasse will do but a few favorites are six line or yellow coris wrasse

interesting, I have a 20L frag tank with 2t5's (ati coral plus and blue plus) and 24-3w royal blue LEDs on full brightness and my zoas love it,
Are you talking to me?

If so I only use Blue Lights.

I have All ATI Blue Plus T5 on one Aquarium and a Kessil A150 20K Deep Blue Actinic LED on the other Aquarium.

All the Zoanthids are on the Sandbed too so that they do not get too much Light.

Anything that produces flow is fine. A few months ago i switched from 2 tunzes to 1 jeabo wp40 and its pretty good.

Well I do not want too much or too little flow.

I am trying to figure out why I have such bad luck with Zoanthids and I figured that maybe it has to do with Flow.

I only have Hydor Koralia Power Heads and I have a bunch so I can do any combination.

If you were forced to use Koralias only what would you add.

If you are not familiar with them these are the models in Gallons Per Hour.

240
425
600
850
1100
1500

And I have a

55 Gallon
29 Gallon
20 Gallon Long
10 Gallon

So which Koralia's in your opinion would you add to each of the Four Tanks that I listed above if they were going to be Zoanthid Only Tanks (What would be the perfect amount of flow for Zoanthids).

In my 20L i have a single 1500 koralia and about 350gph of return pump flow, I keep SPS, LPS and Zoas very happy. The key is placement of corals and placement of powerhead.

Where do you have the Power Head Placed?

I usually place the powerhead pointing upwards and throw some fish flakes. Once the fish flakes go in the water I move the powerhead untill i get flow how i want it. Try it. Don't throw tooo many fish flakes or your phophates will go up lol.

Haha, I have a few you might be interested in but for the most part you have most of what I have :). I need more room cus I still have three frag racks on my display tank :/
