So I have bought a few zoa frags/colonies and they have started out with pretty good color but always seem to go brownish despite my tank thriving and perimeters staying stable. I have read many things which seem to cancel each other out such as light for example. Many say it happens due to excessive light then I have read some that say not the right light. I am presently running stock BC29 t5 blue from 7-4 and 10k 11-3 then moon light till 12am. zoas are in all different areas in the tank. I have one colony in the sand which gives the best color (no Brown) but seems to be smaller then when it was first placed and another fire and ice placed in the middle that still has some orange but has gone mostly brown. Any ideas are welcomed would love for it to pop with good color.

I have not had good luck with Zoa's the rest of the tank is doing well except the Zoa's. The interesting thing is that I have a colony that look dead for 6 months and it now coming back.

Well I just changed my lights from the stock BC t5s to LEDs I can control so I hope I have better luck. But in my case also everything else is doing great.

So I has only been a few days since changing from stock t5 bc lights to truelumen 12 in led retrofit with the ramp pro timer but zoas are already improving:0
I will try to get more pics on but color is filling in Brown is going away and ones that wouldn't open are blooming!

With Zoas their is no way to tell if they're happy. It can change daily with them. Hope that your situation is the lights.
