Zoa ID and why is it sticking up?

Can I get an ID for the zao and I’m not sure why it’s extended out like in the pics.

Give it time to acclimate. It doesn't look bad.

My long stalk palys are sensitive to high flow where my zoas like medium flow. To much and they'll close up for me. Medium to high indirect flow has been ok. If the palys get moved up look for signs of the heads drooping, that could be an indicator of to much light.

long stalks are the result of not enough light of lack of flow,,,if they close up with more flow,,give them time and they will reopen with shorter stalks..do not move out of more flow..til they open again

There are species with long stalks, doesn't always mean it's a reaction to light. I've got a long stalk colony for many years. These were higher than all the other palys in the tank. I believe there can be to much flow for zoas.

I have some with longer stalks but no where near what your are..i keep all my tanks super high flow for all of them,,the only palys that have medium flow are my grandis collection,,they are in the same tank but in an area where the high flow doesnt get to them..
I have 6 power heads in a 60 gallon frag just for reference..all power heads are 1000 gpm or higher

I agree, they can handle more flow than most think but IME it's more indirect that's tolerable instead of constant blasting. I've always been fascinated by them.

Thanks for sending a picture that does really help. I bought it from my LFS and she said that it’s extended because it needed more light. It does make sense the it may be just a specie that has a long stalk.

These guys survived a heat-related system crash and stayed closed about a week or so. Lost all LPS, Xenias and leathers but my Palys, Shrooms and some fish survived. I think your colony is fine.

It’s been on the midtank mid flow for about a week now. Still looks the same. Do you think it will open up more if I move it up to the highest point in the tank close to the power head.?

Well, it looks like they're open so I'd let them sit for a while and see if they adjust. Moving them might make them close up again... move the power head...
