So I had a snail fall on my Zoas, since then the have started to look pretty bad it almost seems like it is spreading to the zoas around it. Is there anything I can do about it? It is a really big colony so I cant pull it out of the tank... Any help would be super appreciated!

I too have experienced something similar to this in my own tank but thankfully it was with some ugly brown zoas I wanted to get rid of. Maybe someone else in the #reefsquad has an idea to what caused it, I'd definitely be interested to know.

How long was the snail there? I take it a while, possibly upside down.... They just look irritated and closed up. Hopefully they'll bounce back.

They do just looked like they're still ticked off. How long ago did this happen and how long was the snail removed? Hopefully it's just an element of time "healing all wounds".

I wish I could get better pics but this is at the back of the tank.
But it looks as if there is a thin brown coating of some sort on some of the poylps.

better direct way more flow to the polyps,,plus if you can ,,take the rock out of tank and use iodine (1:3 parts Iodine to water )to coat the area ,,let the rock sit with the iodine for a few minutes then just rinse the rock sideways in pan of old tank water without submersing the whole rock in Iodine..

They are in very direct flow already. I can take part of the colony out but the other part is on a large rock with some other corals. Is there anything I can do in the tank? Possibly peroxide?

DO NOT do any full tank treatments...not needed,,you have one coral with problems and you dont need a whole tank issue.

zoa fungus is usually a white milky coating on the zoa polyps and matt, an Iodine dip is best with fungus..algae is usually a blueish brown coating, peroxide dip is best,,,bacteria is usually the brown film from stressed zoas polyps and flesh, you can try peroxide or Furan 2 dips but all these dips are to be done outside the tank and minimize excessive live rock contact

Thank you for taking your time to help me with this!
Yeah then it deffinitly sounds like bacteria.
Would i be able to "topically apply" the peroxide like you had mentioned doing with the iodine?
Take the rock out and coat the infected area with a diluted peroxide solution?

dont do straight 3% peroxide on polyps,,youll burn them right up..make a dip and hold rock over in dipping container for a few miuntes...do some research on this forum about preparing the peroxide mixing ratio,,if you go that route..
heres a good reading information of alot of things regarding zoas in general..

Thank you, we'll see if i can get them out of the tank

Ok so I tried a dip in peroxide. and a dip in iodine so far. It didn't seem to help. Here are some better pictures. it does seem to be affecting corals that are not in direct contact with the infected ones.

I’m dealing with what seems like the same thing but only on a new frag of some rastas. I dipped in diluted peroxide, coral rx, and iodine. Then I brushed the polyps with a kids paint brush.

The brown film is now gone but the polyps don’t look so hot. I’m thinking they won’t make it but time will tell. Hopefully this doesn’t spread to any other zoas/plays. I have a couple I suspected we’re starting to get the film but now look ok.

Will keep you posted regardless.
