hey everyone. I just started a new tank about 20 gallons. It was cycled multiple times before the zoa was added. For the first week or so he seemed fine. Then a few weeks ago something happened and now he looks terrible. Heres a pic. What do you think went wrong?

In order for people to give you any practical advice about your coral you should include your complete water parameters and information about your system such as age, lighting (type, intensity, schedule), filtration and any other inhabitants.. full tank pictures are also very useful

without knowing anything about your system I would guess the peppermint shrimp is aggravating them to death. I would consider taking some of that sand out, looks awfully deep.

Aside from adding parameters to help trouble shoot I'll tell you right now zoas do better in mature systems, 12 months or older, that have readable levels of nitrates and phosphates. I'd never recommend zoas for a new tank, even if it is cycled IYO. You might want to consider spot feeding them with reef roids (or a similar product). However, it would be best if we knew where your parameters were first.

Hi, and welcome to R2R. Just wanted to say awesome job of just getting some zoas and not putting 15 different corals in your tank at once! Although tempting, adding one gives you an opportunity to really see how your tank is performing. Visual clues after straight up parameters are most important.
The more stable and mature your tank Is the more success with corals you will have.

I agree that this looks like a very new tank, and likely still "cycling" which to do fully for sensitive coral can take several months, some even argue years (for some coral).
